FAQ

What is the difference between live, dressed and boxed weight?

Live weight is the weight of the animal when it leaves the farm.

Dressed weight is the weight after the head, hide, and internal organs have been removed.

Boxed weight is the final weight of the packaged cuts of meat you receive.

What does marbling mean?

Marbling refers to the thin streaks of white fat running through the meat.

Marbling is important because it plays a key role in flavour and eating quality. As the meat cooks, this fat melts, helping to keep the beef moist and tender, and creating that "melt-in-your-mouth" experience.

Cuts like scotch fillet have higher marbling, while cuts like silverside are leaner. Lower-marbling cuts are best suited to slow cooking methods.

What are the different cuts best used for?

We've got you covered!

We know it can feel overwhelming at first, so we've created an easy-to-follow cheat sheet to help you choose cuts that suit your household. You can view our cuts guide here.

How will my meat be packaged?

We aim to make this process as convenient as possible, with four packaging options available:

  • Standard (included in price): Supplied in lined cardboard boxes, ready for you to portion at home.
  • Bags (+$1.20/kg): Portioned to suit the number of people in your household.
  • Trays (+$1.40/kg): Portioned to suit the number of people in your household.
  • Cryovac (+$2.30/kg): Vacuum-sealed and portioned to suit your household.

Which packaging option is best for me?

This comes down to personal preference. At Generations Meat, we recommend cryovac packaging, as it can last up to 30 days refrigerated before freezing, helping lock in freshness and flavour.

Bagged and tray options work just as well but should be frozen within a few days of receiving your order.

Can I customise my order?

Absolutely!

Each cut in your order can be customised to suit your preferences.
